an online community against bullying
for youth and parents

Robert’s Wish is a purpose driven non-profit organization

We are focused on providing safe, confidential, non-judgmental online social communities for youth who are being bullied and parents seeking to help their children navigate different challenges. Each community connects people who need to feel heard, who need a few words on encouragement and where differences are celebrated.

Our community is a place where people feel heard, validated, accepted simply for being themselves and where members can seek advice. Robert’s Wish, Inc. is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit. With our passionate volunteers, we provide a community for open discussion of today’s challenges.

Our three core pillars – respect, kindness, and community spirit – are clearly present and play a vital role in making members feel welcome, safe, and part of the Robert’s family. By supporting the development of mind, body, and soul, Robert’s Wish works to empower young individuals with a thorough foundation for future success.

While our primary focus and the work of Phase I is to connect isolated youth with their peers, we also acknowledge the important role that parents and caregivers play in their development. That’s why we plan to launch a second community during Phase II to connect concerned parents.

You're probably wondering who Robert is, right?

Robert was a kind, loving and caring young man who after many years of hiding his true self, came out to the world.

Unfortunately, as a result of this, his family, many friends and local community turned their backs on and disowned him – the very people who were meant to be his support system were afraid of accepting him as his true self. The isolation that ensued challenged his career and his daily life was made almost impossible with the bullying and taunting.

He felt so alone and with nowhere to turn, he felt desperate. The lack of accessible resource available to him and no community that he would turn to who would understand his struggle and offer advice allowing him to feel less alone led him to seek comfort via YouTube.  He discovered the “The Fosters” a US Drama series. Through the powerful, relevant and beautifully portrayed messages from this series, Robert found comfort, understanding and support.  He discovered a community of others who were experiencing the same challenges of life.

Robert began to regain confidence and belief in himself and others. He started to feel less alone and isolated.  Unfortunately, with a lack of constant support, the feeling of being alone and constant bullying led Robert to take his life.

Before he passed, he expressed his determination to find a way to support others so they would not have to feel so alone and isolated.

And so, Robert’s Wish was born.

One young man’s desire to do what he could to ensure that others would have a safe place to talk to others, not to feel so alone or isolated and to be heard with no judgement.

Robert’s Wish was founded in 2015 by Lisa Hunter. Lisa met Teri Polo and Sherri Saum from “The Fosters” at the Point Foundation Gala in October 2015. It was here that she mentioned she was thinking of starting something in memory of Robert. It was Teri and Sherri’s encouragement and kind words that spurred Lisa to start Robert’s Wish and it was the start of a new and exciting journey.
